Build a Saturn V under a Saturn V! - August 10

Tennessee Valley LEGO Club partnered with Geek Out Huntsville for a really awesome event at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. We built 2 of LEGO's new Saturn V kits underneath an actual Saturn V in the Davidson Center!

There remain only 3 Saturn V's in the world composed of actual flight or test ready hardware, and one of them is on display in the Davidson Center. This particular Saturn V was a prototype used for dynamic testing at the nearby Marshal Space Flight Center prior to the manned missions.

The public was welcome to help with the builds and the format was something of a race pitting Geek Out Huntsville against the US Space and Rocket Center crew. In a show of solidarity with geeks on both sides of that divide, we placed 2 members on each team.

The race came down to the wire. Even though the mayor "helped" just long enough to destroy the first stage oxidizer tank, team Geek Out Huntsville came out on top by no more than 10 seconds.

The event generated a lot of questions from the public and it was just a really great opportunity to team up with two outstanding organizations. We can't thank The US Space and Rocket Center and Geek Out Huntsville enough for making this event happen!
